About Us

Melanie Jambrosic, Founder of Sport Psych Studio

Clinical and Sport Psychology Consultant

Dr. Melanie Jambrosic is a sport psychology consultant and the founder of Sport Psych Studio,  which she established in 2020. Based in Chicago, Illinois, Dr.  Jambrosic combines her extensive academic background with her personal  experiences to empower athletes and performers to reach their full  potential.

My journey, both personally and professionally, has been  shaped by a deep understanding of sport and clinical psychology—fields  that have not only become my career but also a profound part of who I  am. As a child, sports were more than just a pastime—they were a  lifeline. They helped me cope with stress and gave me a sense of purpose  during times when life felt overwhelming. Through sport, I found  connection, not just with my family but also with myself. The lessons I  learned on the field shaped my resilience and taught me that strength is  just as much mental as it is physical.

As  I grew older, I began to recognize the profound role that mental and  emotional factors play in both athletic success and overall well-being.  This understanding led me to pursue a career that bridges both sport and  clinical psychology, so I could offer a comprehensive approach to  supporting athletes and performers—a way to nurture the whole  person—body, mind, and spirit.

Drawing  from my own experiences as an athlete, combined with my clinical  expertise, I’ve developed a deep passion for helping individuals  confront and overcome their personal and performance-related challenges.  Beyond sport psychology, I have significant experience in trauma  therapy, particularly working with individuals who feel isolated or  powerless in the face of their struggles. My therapeutic approach is  rooted in authenticity, aligning with core values, and fostering the  belief that our past does not define our future.

Growing  up in an immigrant family, I am acutely aware of how cultural factors  shape mental health and performance. This awareness drives my passion  for supporting diverse individuals as they navigate their unique  challenges and opportunities. My work is informed not only by  professional knowledge but by a personal understanding of the  complexities that come with balancing identity, culture, and personal  growth.

I earned my  Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from California State University,  Fullerton, where I was named to the Dean’s List in 2010. I then pursued a  Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Psychology from California  State University, Long Beach, where I maintained a 4.0 GPA and was  inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.

After  completing both my Master’s and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The  Chicago School of Professional Psychology (Irvine campus), I focused on  the intersection of psychology and athletic performance in my  dissertation, titled "Examining the Relationship Between Collegiate and Professional Athletes' Motivation Types and Clinical Symptoms."  This work reflects my ongoing commitment to understanding how mental  well-being impacts athletes and performers at every level.

In addition to my academic achievements, I am an active member of several prestigious professional organizations, including:

  • Graduate Student Affiliate, Center for Self-Determination Theory
  • Graduate Student Affiliate, American Psychological Association
  • Student Affiliate, California Psychological Association
  • Graduate Student Affiliate, Orange County Psychological Association
  • Professional Member, Association for Applied Sport Psychology

I  am also certified in Mindfulness and the Science of Well-Being,  emphasizing my holistic approach to mental health and performance  enhancement.

Over the  years, I’ve worked in diverse clinical settings, including schools,  psychiatric hospitals, community mental health clinics, private  practices, and residential vocational programs. This range of  experience, spanning from children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to  individuals across the lifespan, enables me to offer a nuanced  understanding of psychological well-being and performance enhancement.  Additionally, with over six years of experience in neuropsychological  assessments, I bring a comprehensive perspective to support my clients'  mental health and performance goals.

Through  my work, I aim to not only help individuals thrive in their  performances but also to empower them to understand and appreciate their  unique journey—because how we get to where we are is as important as  where we’re headed.
